About

Bull City Vegan promotes and encourages vegan options in Durham. Since 2010, we have organized the original Vegan Chef Challenge, the Bull City Vegan Challenge (BCVC), where local chefs prepare a creative vegan dish and diners vote on the best!

The BCVC began in 2010 with 10 Durham restaurants competing. In 2012, we were back for a brunch challenge with 6 competitors. In 2014, we declared February the “month of vegan love” with 8 restaurants competing. Our 4th challenge in April 2016 encouraged chefs at 15 restaurants to offer hearty “protein” based entrees. And in April 2018 we were back for a sustainability themed vegan chef challenge.

In 2020, we had planned to celebrate our 10th anniversary with a special event in April. But due to the global pandemic, we canceled the event and are focused on promoting our local restaurants in hopes they survive in the meantime.
